Allison Neale on Alto & Flute with Jazznights Trio: Roger Odell, Simon Brown with vocals from Larraine Odell at Jazznights, The Bell Hotel Clare on Sunday 13th May 2018

American born altoist Allison Neale’s beautifully crafted lines evoke the spirit of Paul Desmond and Art Pepper with whom she has a particular affinity.
As a strong advocate of the melodic West Coast style she has performed alongside leading international artists such as Adelaide Hall and Bud Shank and more recently tenorist Scott Hamilton as well as featuring in both the John Dankworth ‘Generations‘ Band and the “Back to Basie’ Orchestra. She frequently tours the UK with her current Quartet, which also features acclaimed jazz pianist Leon Greening, bassist Julian Bury and drummer Steve Brown and has two CDs to her name ‘Melody Express’ with guitarist Dave Cliff and ‘Blue Concept’ with trumpeter Gary Kavanagh , both on 33 Records. Her latest CD ” I Wished on the Moon ” due for release in January 2015 on the Trio Records label and features the quartet as well as Milt Jackson influenced vibraphonist Nat Steele.
“ Allison Neale plays the alto saxophone with a tone so light and airy it positively melts at the edges” Dave Gelly , The Observer

Bonus: Alec will be on bass! “Flawless pitch with a lovely lyrical expression in her voice”. Tina May.

"'m a 20 year-old saxophonist and guitarist, currently based in London. Since picking up the sax and guitar at age 7, I've been lucky enough to share the stage with a wide range of international artists, such as Bellowhead, UK sax legend Pete King and Sugarhill Gangmember Skip McDonald. Performing at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Latitude Festival, London Olympic Park as well as opportunities to perform with world class bands such as Derek Nash's Protect the Beat and the Simon Bates Big Band, conducted by renowned composer Howard Blake.

I'm currently studying full-time on the jazz course at London's Royal Academy of Music, as well as playing and writing for a wide range of different bands and projects including my own jazz/funk trio, big band work and an array of funk/soul bands, including MD'ing for ex-Drifter Maurice Cannon. I also play baritone sax/guitar in London-based West African/funk fusion band 'Afrik Bawantu,' led by Ghanaian percussion master Afla Sackey. Performance highlights with this band include performing at the 50th anniversary celebration of the BBC World Service, as well as many festivals around the UK and Europe. We're currently putting the finishing touches to the second album, 'It's Not Easy.'
I'm currently guitarist for the the Ashton Jones Project, a hard-working, high-energy funk band for which I'm co-writing and arranging the debut album.
Pianist/producer Chris Ingham has also involved me as a guest on his latest quartet project, celebrating the music of Dudley Moore. The 16-track album, 'Dudley' has received critical acclaim from the Guardian and the Observer among others, and our show at Pizza Express, Soho went down a storm.
I'm very excited to be a member of a hard-bop quintet, the 'Barford-Stoneman Organ Quintet,' showcasing the music of Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan and Eddie Harris among others. We're very much looking forward to supporting Liane Carroll, Claire Martin and Clare Teal and the Ella Fitzgerald centenary celebration at St John Smith's Square as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.
Ex-Suzi Quatro guitarist and Cockney Rebel member Robbie Gladwell has also involved me in his band for many years, performing at a huge variety of venues across the UK as well as an annual 3-night charity event in aid of Cancer Research UK. It was when I first started playing with Robbie I had the opportunity to sign an endorsing artists contract with German amplifier company Hughes&Kettner.
I also work with a wide range of jazz/pop/soul function bands."

Tuesday 20 March 2018

Pete Neighbour at Jazznights the Bell Hotel, Clare on Sunday 18th March 2018 with Roger Odell, Ted Beament and Bernie Hodgkins with vocals from Larraine Odell and "sitters in" Geoff Harriman and Carol Bleiker

From relatively humble beginnings growing up in East London music has enabled Pete Neighbour to travel and perform extensively. Concert and guest  appearances on land

Jazznights Pete Neighbour 180318 (162)

have taken him all over Europe, North America, Australia and Asia. In more recent years he has carved a niche for himself being one of very few jazz musicians to reach a wider audience by performing as a Headline Guest Entertainer on luxury cruise ships; thus enabling him to travel to some far flung corners of the world… Japan, Iceland, The Falkland Islands (some six times!) and even Antarctica to name a few. His act, when on cruise ships, focuses particularly on the 'swing era'. The music and stories from that era never fail to ensure an enthralling evening's entertainment.
His love of jazz was nurtured from an early age and the complexities of improvisation became a challenge to be conquered… a challenge which excites him as much today as it did in those formative

Jazznights Pete Neighbour 180318 (165)

years. He is also still very much involved with corporate work, private functions, jazz festivals, master classes and recordings. Awards and accolades range from winning 'most promising saxophonist' at age 18 at a competition in London organised by 'Jazz Journal' magazine to being recently awarded the 'Entertainer of the Year' award by the six star luxury cruise line 'Silversea', with whom Pete has had a long and successful relationship. He is constantly in demand in a variety of settings and has performed at private parties for His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales at Highgrove House as well as at house parties for Sir Michael Caine and Mick Jagger. He is repeatedly in attendance at many high profile corporate and show business events. His performances have included venues as diverse as The Royal Festival Hall in London, The Lincoln Center in New York, functions for the New York Historical Society, corporate events on board the 'Orient Express', parties at the Cannes Film Festival, in French Chateaux, The House of Lords in London, and Scottish Baronial castles.
Over the years he has performed with many great names from both the British and American jazz scenes ranging, stylistically from Al Casey (who performed regularly

Jazznights Pete Neighbour 180318 (164)

with 'Fats' Waller) to modern jazz names such as John Critchenson and the late Martin Drew.  He is proud to have played regularly alongside such musical luminaries as Warren Vache, Doc Cheatham, Wild Bill Davidson, Max Kaminsky, Scott Hamilton, George Chisolm, Humphrey Lyttleton and Acker Bilk. He has appeared as a guest artiste or leading his own band in jazz clubs in many cities from his native London to Paris, New York, New Orleans, Zurich, Rome, Singapore and Sydney…and many places in between.
When spending time at his adopted home in South Carolina he enjoys being involved in t
he local thriving music scene. He is particularly grateful to Doctor Gordon (Dick) Goodwin, Emitrius Professor of composition at the University of South Carolina, who has written several arrangements for Pete. Furthermore, Pete has recorded and performed on numerous occasions with South Carolina saxophonist and bandleader Skipp Pearson. Skipp has been recognized by the State of South Carolina as its official "Ambassador of Jazz".
There are currently three albums available under the leadership of Pete Neighbour. The latest, "Back in the Neighbourhood" was recorded, as the title suggests, back in London in September of 2014. It was released in early 2015 to very favorable reviews. It features some old friends of Pete and who are some of the finest players currently performing on the British and European jazz scene. Two other albums, "Friends & Neighbour" and "It's Alright With Me" are also available – see the 'CD' page for sound clips and details on how to purchase. Downloads are also available via iTunes, amazon.com and cdbaby.com.

Pete played with the Jazznights Trio who were:

Roger Odell - Drums

Ted Beament - Piano

Bernie Hodgkins - Electric Bass
